Our task is to produce accurate intermediate times for all 420 crews as they pass the flagpole at Barnes. These times are transmitted in real time by direct computer link to the race computer at Putney and are available to the press and to commentators at Putney as the race proceeds. Copies of the times are kept on paper so that we can correct errors later. The Barnes times, along with those from the Start at Chiswick, a second intermediate point at Hammersmith and the Finish at Putney are also used to calculate race statistics which are published later.
