On a sunny yet blustery day at Wycliffe, the Colts VIII put in a solid performance for their first race of the season.

The crew rated 28 off the start and then settled into a steady rhythm at 26. According to crew members the balance was the best yet this season.

As they came through Splatt Bridge which is the unfortunately named half way point of the course, they looked steady and technically sound. They continued to row strongly for the rest of the course.

However it was clear that the crew lacked a finish, that is to say, a burst at the end of the race when the rating is taken up several pips, and the tanks are emptied. This was remarked upon by a crew member after the race and it is something that will be learnt in the near future.

Overall, it was a good first race of the season, and the crew should look forward to the races to come with relish. With increased, fitness and strength they have the potential to be an excellent J16 Eight.
