After the National Schools we were to regroup and move on to Tewkesbury, but now Nicki‘s back was not 100% and Vicki was still off rowing. This meant that one of Lucy, Jess or Amelia could gain a place and they were tried out. Meanwhile examinations hit the crew and for one of the outings, despite a squad of 13, due to geography and illness we had to row a 6! However, after much difficult deliberation, as there were many good reasons for inclusion of each member of the squad, a crew was picked the final choice being Maise, Emma, Jess, Floz, Jess, Kelly (her last row for the school), George, Bel and Katie. Thus, after the Mathematics exam in the morning, we were off to Tewkesbury for our race at 17:06, we arrived and settled, but then we were called, our race was now 14:00 and we were boating, and with no time to inform parents of the change the girls in high spirits set off for the Final, with Cheltenham Ladies and Worcester, both J16 crews. The start was not a happy affair and we failed to regain contact with the other two crews who fought a needle match all the way to the line and a Worcester win by a canvas. This left derigging and apologies to the many parents who had made the trip to, as it transpired, miss the race. A sad end
to such a promising year, but next year they will be true J16s as well as still Novices and should manage to fulfil their
promise with some well deserved wins.
