Throughout the Lent term morale was high in the SECOND EIGHT as the crew moulded together well to row with a convincing rhythm and a speed which was surprising in view of the smallness of stature of many of the members. We won our class at Bristol and Exeter, at the latter finishing in second position overall beaten only by the Monkton 1st VIIIs. Our performance on the Tideway in the Schools Head Race was equally encouraging with a finishing position of 31st, only half a second behind the 1st VIII.
During the Easter holidays a composite crew made up of 2nd and 3rd VIII together with two 0.M.s was less successful, mainly because of insufficient outings beforehand, but also because morale had suffered through a long period off rowing through the injury of one of the crew.
The drive and enthusiasm never really returned during the summer term, and eventhough we rowed well at Saltford in the Avon County Schools Regatta there was not the degree of commitment necessary for a successful preparation for the National Schools Regatta: we were ignominiously knocked out in the first round. Frustrated by this lack of success a more determined period of training followed leading up to Richmond Regatta in which some great racing, particularly in the round against Quintin, brought us to the final of Senior C VIII against Eton. It was sad that lack of stamina resulted in our not gaining the trophy which would have been a fitting end to the season. Still it was mostly a very enjoyable year's rowing with some distinguished moments to savour.
