The Boat Club ticked over as usual in the Michaelmas Term. There was a little sculling which but for floods would have culminated in our annual race at Saltford. Sufficient girls to form two fours joined the Club, but numbers dwindled, and only one four raced in the Lent Term. We welcomed two new coaches in January: Mr. Hanna and Mr Jameson took on responsibility for an eight each, and their crews had successful training and racing.
The Lent Term started with a cold snap, but on the whole the weather was kind and we were able to have far more training than had been possible the previous year. It was therefore frustrating that illness struck the club in the last three weeks of our long distance racing season. Results were worse than deserved.
At the beginning of the summer term, School House won the Bumps for the fifth year in succession. In July The Revd. Kim Swithinbank left to take up another appointment; we are grateful for his efforts on behalf of the club during his short time with us. We are delighted to report that two former members of the club (John Davison and Richard Ireland) were selected to row for Great Britain in the World Championships in August.
