To my mind this was a group which demonstrated through determination and enthusiasm what a good sport rowing is - individually there was not a great deal of natural talent nor were there the physical giants to provide the typical group of heavyweights associated with the 'engine room'. However, though some of the 'B' crew eventually failed to stay the two term course, the crews persevered thoughtfully and not unsuccessfully with the slow process of improving their technique and were always ready to put it to hard physical effect as throughout the season they were gradually called upon to get down to some really hard work. It was a fitting reward that although frequently not quite fast enough during the two terms to prove themselves finally successful, they maintained their enjoyment and their keenness, picking themselves up from disappointment after disappointment to fight again, eventually losing their 'Novice' tag at Reading Town, the last of the year's main regattas. It was here too that the 'B' crew now reduced to a IV showed most pleasing form after a term of little encouragment from outside and practically no coaching.

If these crews bring the same attitude to the Senior group there is hope for a bright and cheerful future.

We would all like to record too our appreciation of the support of parents and others at the regattas, particularly the Bruce-Gardners, our hosts for the Summer half term.
