The annual Newsletter is usually sent out only to members of Monkton Bluefriars. The gener- ous sponsorship offered by the TSB has enabled us to get in touch with a greater number of people than usual; we welcome this opportunity to explain who we are and to encourage all who support rowing at Monkton to become mem- bers.
All Old Monktonian oarsmen and oarswomen who have rowed at Monkton are eligible to join as full members. We now welcome all friends of Monkton rowing as members.
Monkton Bluefriars Boat Club supports row- ing at Monkton. Financial help goes towards costs of holiday rowing; it also pays for some equipment which the school does not provide. Special grants are sometimes given to individual oarsmen to help them meet the cost of expensive training or expeditions.
There is no fixed subscription, but members give annual donations by Bankers Order. At present, these payments are for sums between £5 and £100.
.... for parents of oarsmen — Unlike many schools, Monkton does not make a termly charge for rowing. Bluefriars paid in excess of £800 towards holiday rowing last year, and no charge was made to parents, except for 1st VIII training in Cambridge. Parents of pupils still at school may well feel that they are paying enough in fees already; this is quite understood, but perhaps they may consider subscribing to Bluef- riars later.
.... for Old Monktonian oarsmen — Nearly all oarsmen of recent generations have benifited enormously from Bluefriars funds. Now it is your turn to help this funding continue and in- crease.
.... for other friends — Neither you nor your children have benefited directly from Bluefriars funds, but you can help us to maintain a fine rowing tradition.
If you want to join, please fill in the Bankers Order (centre page) for the amount you would like to give each year and send it to me.
Please consider taking out a TSB card whether you join Bluefriars or not, and help both us and British Rowing.
