A long period of illness had started, and the crew was not fit to row at this race. It had been out only twice in the previous week, and was definitely below par. Bryanston, who had beaten us by a few seconds at Henley, beat us by a bit more, but our row was sufficiently good to indicate that some extra speed might be squeezed out of the boat when fitness was back, and further training undertaken.
