The girls' rowing got off to a promising start. We had 9 girls, 7 of whom were complete novices. For the first term and a half we rowed in two fours and entered two races. The first was at Saltford. We did not reach a high position, but were much encouraged by it. We were sure that our second race was going to be disastrous. We arrived at Wycliffe to find that the A-crew could row in their own fine four, but the B-crew, because of a mistake made by Wycliffe, had to row in a borrowed four that was rigged far too high for the crew. Both crews thought they had done terribly, so it was much to their surprise when they found that the A-crew had won a bronze in their class, and the B-crew had won a gold against Wycliffe (owners of the borrowed boat!).
It was when we came back into the eight that things started to go wrong. Several our crew were struck down in the 'flu epidemic and the stroke suffered a back injury. Mainly because of these troubles, the crew disbanded in the Summer Term.
