J15 — Junior Colts

The J15 age group did not have an easy season. We had three VIIIs on the water but whom were we to put in each? The performances of the oarsmen were erratic and crew morale proved hard to maintain. The A crew showed great promise at times and as their maturity develops some of its members will become excellent oarsmen. However, they were sometimes beaten by less talented but more dedicated opponents. The B crew started as an unhappy group but developed well through the season, though never fast. The attitude was excellent and I think its members enjoyed their rowing.

The day to forget was that of the Schools' Head. Conditions were frightenly bad and the timekeeping worse. The A crew rowed very well and were placed 11th; the B crew was holed and did not finish, and was placed 14th! The day to remember was National Schools at Nottingham. The A crew's first race was won with a nerve and style which made it one of the most exciting I have ever seen.
