As usual, there was some some activity at the river before Christmas; keen oarsmen did a lot of weight training, enabling them to return to school in January better prepared than usual for hard work, both on and off the water. The Sculling Club was comprised mostly of 'B' crew members who learned watermanship and performed creditably in various small boats races; the Monkton Bluefriars Head Race attracted a record entry of about 150 crews and the following week R.J.Mitchell won a medal in J14 Sculls at Wycliffe.
