Merak

Merak - a faithfull honorary member of the Boat Club for the best part of a decade - died in September.

Legs Tens were re-named Meraks by many Monkton crews in recognition of his strength and spirit. He was never late for his outings at the river, because he always left the workshop as soon as the first crews ran across the aqueduct. The following tribute was sent soon after he was buried within a stick‘s throw of the river.

This is how Merak should be remembered - full of strength, fun and courage! Perhaps he should be an honorary member of the dangerous sports club. So sorry to hear that we won‘t be seeing him at the boatshed again, but tales of his crazy ways will become legends told and re-told by many people (ecpecially children) that have had so much pleasure from playing with him. He was such a character, and we were very fond of him. We shall miss him.
