The Bluefriars Small Boats Head

We had a record entry of 170 boats for the 24th race of the series, which was held on 23rd November, on a cold but pleasant day. Recent emphasis on safety has lead to a large increase in the number of helpers needed to run events of this type, and we were grateful to OMs, parents and other friends, who came out in force, with their mobile phones, wellies and warm clothes to become part of the team. All the newcomers appeared to enjoy themselves, and were surprised at the amount of work that is done in the background to help run efficient and safe events. All the helpers will be welcome at next years race (the 25th) which will be held on Saturday 22nd November. I hope that OMs will make a special effort to race in the Jubilee event.

Our Head Race is not the only event which will be grateful for help. Our local schools event, run by Avon County RC at Swindon, nearly ground to a halt last year, despite the outward appeance of all being well, because we did not have sufficent helpers. If you are coming to watch, then please consider helping for a stint!
