Not to be missed   Richard Meyron

If you come to no other rowing event in the annual calendar, ensure you get to the National Schools regatta at the end of May near Nottingham. Not only is this the showcase for our crews, but it is also a wonderful family day out in a beautiful location beside a tailor made lake.

The rowing is enthralling, and we see all our Monkton teams sparring against all the great and good crews, and we often prevail. Watching from the grass bank; riding on the double decker bus beside 'your' crew; walking the dog - however you witness the crews in battle, you won't regret coming - even if yours is knocked out in their first heat, it's still worth being there for the day.

But not just for the rowing. Each crew produces an on-going picnic in or near the haven of the MCS marquee which will keep you satisfied all day, even if in 2004 it was those tempting smells from the J16 VIII who provided a really wholesome BBQ which made this crew many friends that day - and maybe not a few jealous enemies in adjacent school enclaves.

Mark your calendar NOW: Saturday 28 May 2005.
