Third Form rowing at Monkton had a great year with a large growth in new rowers taking up the sport and hopefully laying the foundations for future successes. With 31 3rd formers starting their rowing careers this year, the boathouse was a busy place on rowing afternoons. We look forward to hearing of the exploits of the squad in coming years, as they progress into racing more frequently. With an increased emphasis this year on acquiring good sculling technique in quadruple and octuple sculls, as opposed to travelling to a lot of races, the group developed nicely with several individuals really coming to the fore as the season progressed. We were fortunate to have the river rowable for the vast majority of the 2 terms, as the rain largely held off. This enabled us to get plenty of precious time on the water.
Races attended this year included the Coate Water Regatta, which ended up cancelled due to awful weather (see rowers report below), and the excellent Tewkesbury regatta, where pretty much the whole squad got at least one race. Whilst we didn't win any trophies this summer, both the squad itself and coaching team of Mr. Bossom, Mr. Lang and Mr. Reay were really pleased with the year and what was achieved. With numbers as healthy as this, the Boat Club's future looks assured.
