It was in June of 2006 that 4 of us were at an OM weekend where it was suggested that an VIII should be put together. I took up the challenge and after many emails and a very early positive reaction we could have had 12 oarsmen from 74 and 75 coming. But gradually several dropped out and we were left with 8, all on the same side as we rowed back at school.

We met up for coffee and a light lunch at the Combe Grove Manor Hotel followed by the row at 2pm which has been detailed separately.

My own thoughts were that it was wonderful to be back at a place where we spent so much time. It brought back the highs and lows, the fatigue, the weather, the elations, the camaraderie and many emotions. There were fleeting moments when it felt as good as it used to: we hadn't forgotten how to row - just how to row together.

The row was followed by a cream tea at the boathouse and drinks at JMB's cottage where the old log books and photos were brought out. We had a quiet and tasty dinner and a few drinks back at the Combe Grove Manor and went our separate ways vowing to do this again in 10 or maybe 5 years hence!

Since leaving school I found the discipline, camaraderie, teamwork and the trust you build up in the crew invaluable in my career in the Royal Navy and now as a Captain in British Airways.
