The second annual indoor rowing competition took place in April 2007 at the Knight Sports Centre and was again a great success.
Oldfield is one of many state schools involved with the ARA's project oarsome scheme which gives kids the opportunity to give rowing a go. It involves linking up with a local club (Avon County in this case) and teaching the kids to row on indoor machines and then progress to the Rowing Clubs.
Last year Monkton invited Oldfield to compete on indoor rowing machines over a 500 metre distance. Last year only year 9's (age14) competed but the format was extended this year which included a competition for J15 and J16's boys and girls.
At the end of the individual events both schools are mixed together to make up relay teams and race over a 3000 metre distance. This is a great opportunity for the two schools to mix and get to know each other.
The event was again sponsored by the Bluefriars' Charitable Trust and all competitors were given T-shirts with the Bluefriar logo on it. Some great performances were seen from both schools and all boys and girls enjoyed themselves immensely. Next year the plan is to invite one or two more schools to make the event a little bigger and more competitive.
