The upstream course concentated on a rhythmical stroke - perhaps a bit low. The downstream attempt went off at over 35, with very good comfortable rhythm. Some splash, and strokes not held in. There is room for improvement. One seat fell apart about 20 strokes before the end of the upstream course, which must have cost a couple of seconds. Well done. |

One member of the crew was feeling unwell, but was prepared to race. (He probably should not have done so, but coped very well.) The coach hardly believed the time done two days earlier, and the crew wanted to break the record. A very fine effort on both days, establishing the 2004 crew as one of the fastest Monkton crews at this time of year. Very well done. Godfrey Bishop braved the elements. He went sculling before our outing, and watched from the launch. Impresssed. Had some useful and encouraging comments after the outing. We were going to load for Bristol, but the conditions were so awful that we left it. Most went home for tea! Some played in the snow, resulting in the aggravation of an old shoulder injury for one member of the crew, probably putting him off the river for a while. |
